To stop the progression of gingivitis into periodontal disease, we offer scaling and root planing treatments that involves a deep cleaning of the pockets below the gum line and smoothing of the gum's surface to reduce future build-up. At the dental practice of Dr. Andrew Reingold in New York, Everlasting Smile provides our patients with care for the beginning signs of gum disease and inflammation with a series of treatments (spread out over several months) to remove the bacteria you can't reach with a tooth brush and floss. You may not even be aware that you have the warning signs of gum disease. Many patients don't. At your annual dental check-up, Dr. Reingold will thoroughly assess your teeth and gums, and if needed start the first line of defense with scaling and root planing treatments at his NYC office. "Dr. Reingold is a dentist you can TRUST. I have recommended him to 5+ friends (great dentists in NYC are so hard to find): he is caring, extremely detail-oriented, crazy smart, explains everything clearly and I'm so happy with the results of my Invisalign journey with him and the team (the entire staff is SO welcoming) Definitely check them out!"- R.C. / Google / Aug 25, 2020

"I highly recommend Everlasting Smile services! As someone who had the same dentist since she was 2 years old finding a trust worthy one was not something easy for me. I'm so glad I found this clinic 7 years ago as this is the place where I go for all my dental work. The staff has done an amazing job at keeping everyone feeling safe and comfortable during these challenging times. My personal favorite is the sterilized bins in where you can put all your belongings and not have to worry about them touching the floor. Don't put off your routine dental work for later, the clinic has gone above an beyond to ensure all patients and staff are safe."- A.C. / Google / Aug 22, 2020
"Dr. Reingold is an amazing dentist and his practice is THE BEST! First, he one of the most kind, thorough and honest people that there is and he loves what he does and you can tell. And I just had my first dentist appointment since COVID and as a germ-phobe, I can say the experience was fantastic! In all my years in NYC I've never left any where feeling so clean and cared for. The attention to every last bit of detail --from sanitizing the air, my phone, the room, not seeing even one patient--and he even has a device that makes sure there is no aerosol or air drops coming from your mouth. And his staff all has high tech protective gear from head to toe. I had to leave this review because it was an incredibly positive experience and I felt so happy about it! I highly recommend him!"- E.L. / Facebook / Jul 30, 2020
"I was referred to Dr. Reingold, by my mother, a Southern Beauty Queen, with the highest of standards who simply put 'indicated: Dr. Reingold's office has the best bedside manor' of any dental or medical practice she had ever known. When I first went to Everlasting Smile, was when I had a tooth fall out of my head in a business meeting, and decided to seek a second dental opinion. In my first visit to Dr Reingold's office, he told me that I actually needed 3 root canals (having never had one before, this was a shock), and now flash forward 10 years later, and I have come ot the end of what has been a rigorous, but fruitful curriculum with Dr. Reingold and his team. Entering into this very uncertain 2020, it certainly has helped to have the brightest smile, to bring happiness to others and to look great on Zoom calls!"- L.S. / Google / May 25, 2020
What to Expect
For the scaling and root planing procedure, the patient will be given local anesthesia on the areas being treated. Sedation may be added to help the patient remain calm and comfortable during the procedure. To reach all areas of the gum pocket and remove the plaque and tartar that has built up, the dentist will use a manual scaling tool or an ultrasonic cleaner. After the gum pocket is cleaned, the dentist will minimize the areas where plaque and tartar can become trapped by planing (smoothing) the surface of the tooth. After the procedure, the gums will begin to heal and reattach properly to the tooth root. Some patients may need more than one treatment to get their best results.
After the scaling and root planing treatment, the patient might experience some inflammation or bleeding of the gums for a few days after the treatment. To keep the gums and teeth clean after the scaling and root planing procedure, patients should discuss proper techniques for brushing and flossing so they can establish a good home care routine. Patients should also be sure to schedule dental exams at least once a year or as recommended by their dentist. The dentist will usually schedule a follow up appointment 2 – 4 months after the procedure to check your progress.
Since scaling and root planing is usually a medically necessary treatment for gum disease, dental insurance often covers some or all of the cost of the procedure. Our office will contact your insurance company to determine your specific coverage and out-of-pocket expenses. Patients can also discuss payment options and financing plans during their consultation.
