About Digital X-rays
Cosmetic and general dentist, Dr. Andrew Reingold in at Everlasting Smile uses digital X-rays in his practice in New York, NY. Digital X-rays, also known as digital radiographs, gives Dr. Reingold the flexibility to see beyond the surface of your teeth and gums quickly during your appointment. When you need treatment for problematic dental issues, digital X-rays can determine how healthy your teeth really are by studying the inside of your teeth, gums, and the jawbone It is our goal to detect dental problems early, so there are less invasive treatment options for the patient.
Digital X-rays can help Dr. Reingold find problems, such as:
- Tooth decay and cavities
- Bone loss
- Tooth impaction

What to Expect
After your teeth are cleaned and polished, we will take you to the room dedicated to our radiographs. Getting digital X-rays at our office is simple and fast. Even our youngest patients know that getting X-rays at Dr. Reingold's office is nothing to worry about during their appointments. The entire X-ray session usually takes about 5 – 10 minutes. Once the needed images are taken, the X-rays are uploaded and can be visible during your appointment in a matter of moments.
Most patients will have a series of digital X-rays taken, including:
- Panoramic view of the entire mouth, all teeth, the jaws, and sinuses
- Periapical views to show the entire length of a tooth
- Bite-wing images of the lower and upper back teeth
- Occlusal view (images of the bite), if needed
Other Consideration
We still protect our patients from radiation exposure even though the digital X-ray produces much less radiation than the traditional X-rays of the past. Our patients are asked to wear the lead apron as an added precaution. Patients who are pregnant or breast feeding should also take extra care while around this room, so make sure to tell the dentist before your X-rays are taken. We want to protect all of our patients from radiation exposure, no matter how small.
Anticipated Costs
Many dental insurance plans cover your digital X-rays as a part of preventative dentistry. Keep in mind that digital X-rays at our office vary in price, and can range from $25 – $150 for one image or in the range of $250 for a full-mouth series. Our Financial Coordinator can contact your insurance to determine any out-of-pockets costs.
